Robert Jay's BIO:
I am an Antique dealer by trade and have been
buying & selling since I was 16 years old My
shop / gallery, Robert Jay's Unforgettables is
located right across the street from the
Collingswood Library. The address is 792 Haddon
Ave, Collingswood New Jersey and is a delightful
combination of Antiques & Collectibles along
with the Artwork of some very talented local and
nationally known artists along with some of my
sculptures and turned bowls & vessels.
I am a self-taught sculptor who began working in
stone in 1997 then later switched to wood and I
have never turned back. In 2000 my wife and I
bought a hundred year old house so I became a
woodworker out of necessity. I was getting pretty
handy and I was coming to the end of my 32 year
martial arts career due to some back problems and
I needed a hobby to replace that. I tried my hand
at some furniture making and I just was not that
good at it and I was not enjoying myself. In
December 2004 I was given a lathe turned bowl as
a present. I immediately went to my workshop and
make a bowl using carving and grinding tools. It
turned out well but I decided to buy a lathe to
save some time. In June of 2005 I bought my first
lathe and started turning wood. I take a bit
longer than most people but I am very pleased
with my results. I am learning something new
every day and my bowls at the shop are selling
well, which keeps me in tools.
Joining the DelVal Turners is the best thing I
could have done. The people are friendly and the
meetings are always informative and often include
hands on instruction. There are very many
knowledgeable people that would be glad to help
you with any question you may have about
woodturning. |
